NEXT MEETING OF SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL WAS HELD

The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS was held. Deputy Director in science, corresponding member of ANAS Dadash Huseynov opened a meeting.

D. Huseynov acquainted the participants with the meeting review. Then D. Huseynov called upon D.Sc. on the Earth sciences Gulam Babayev to speak.
In his report “Seismic hazard assessment on the south slope of the Greater Caucasus on the basis of modern methods and integral approaches” G. Babayev noted that scientific data on seismic zones of the south slope of the Greater Caucasus were obtained due to multi-year geodynamic and seismic studies. The data on source zone of the small earthquakes occurred due to strong earthquakes, on the regularities in the distribution of earthquakes in these regions were provided.

Based on the obtain results the reports were presented at the International conferences and symposiums (EGU, SEC, IUGG, etc.), the papers were published in academic journals and collections.

The members of the Scientific Council put numerous questions for a topic.

Then a masters thesis presentation was made. The members of the Scientific Council recommended the following reports: “Lithostratigraphy and the microfauna of bottom sediments of the Absheron archipelago” by Fatma Suleymanova and “Study of the Absheron peninsula and neotectonic processes on the Absheron peninsula (based on aerospace and GPS studies)” by Nabat Hajiyeva to pass the masters theses defense.

At the end of the Scientific Council the scientific-organizational questions were discussed.
