INSTITUTE OF GEOLOGY AND GEOPHYSICS HAS ACQUIRED THREE IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC RESULTS BASED ON THE WORK DONE IN 2017

December 28, 2017

In 2017 the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS has obtained three important scientific findings on the base of the scientific-thematic works.

Deputy Director in science, corresponding member of ANAS Dadash Huseynov reported the results at the republic seminar. D. Huseynov noted that the distribution of the B constant of the Gutenberg-Richter law during 2000-2016 was analyzed; the seismotectonic stress in the Earth crust south-eastwards of Azerbaijan was indicated. It is essential to assessment of the seismic hazard of region.

The studies were carried out by Academic-Secretary of the Division of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Kadirov, Director of Republican Seismic Survey Center, corresponding member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli, Professor L.Teleska, Doctor of Earths Sciences Gulam Babayev, PhD Rafiq Safarov and Solmaz Ismailova .

According to theoretical researches in the modern structural models of the Earth the assumption about the existence of inner solid core of Earth and the distribution of elastic parameters of this structure corresponds to the integral criteria of geology and geophysics, however, the strength and stability of elastic waves of the deformed solid state mechanics fall short the fundamental requirements for the waves propagation. This study was conducted by academician Hatam Guliyev.

The third important scientific result: for the first time the internal structures of the Kura depression during the Phanerozoic were studied in terms of the tectonics of lithospheric plates. During the geodynamic evolution structural-geomorphological plate-tectonic types of its separate blocks have been separated from the Caucasian segment of Tethys. They are characterized by mesocratic-bazic and granite-metamorphic substance structure relating to Hercynian and Kimmerian. It is necessary to compile large-scale plate-tectonic maps of the collision period of the Kura megadepression before new phase of exploration. This study was conducted by Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy Mukhtar Rustamov.
