YOUNG SCIENTISTS DISCUSSED THE SEİSMİCİTY OF THE SOUTH CASPİAN

October 17, 2017

The researches results of the characteristics of time, location and earthquakes focus in the South Caspian basin (SCB) were discussed at next assembly of Young scientists and specialists of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS. Assembly was held under the chairmanship of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ANAS, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Associate Professor Orhan Abbasov. Ph.D. in Earth Science, senior research worker of the Department of Modern Geodynamics and Space Geodesy, Ainura Zamanova presented a report.

Due to analyzing of recent geophysical studies carried out in the SCB, in the sedimentary layer of the basin, basement and the upper layer of the mantle to a depth of 45-50 km, study and specification of the geological-tectonic structure is of great importance.

According to A.Zamanova, the precise definition of seismologic conditions will help to represent the geodynamic development of the region more exactly.

The compiled schemes and sections allow to specify the present boundaries of lithospheric blocks of different age and structure, to analyze the deep structure of seismically hazard zones, to predict the earthquakes focus, to improve maps of seismic hazard zones.

Assembly’s members heard with interest to the paper. At the end, reporter answered numerous questions.
