REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EARTH SCIENCES LISTENED


On January 23 was held report of scientific and scientific organizing activity of the Department of Earth Sciences for 2015 at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics.

Directors, Deputy Director and scientific secretaries of Institutes of Geology, Geography and Geophysics and the National Seismological Service Center and scientists and professors from Baku State University, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and SOCAR participated at the meeting.

First of all, academician-secretary of the department, academic Fakhraddin Gadirov informed about the issues on the agenda. Later made a presentation on scientific and organizational activities, cadre problems and scientific publication. New members from Department of Earth Sciences were elected at the annual meeting of the Academy of Sciences. 5 are active members of the National Academy of Sciences, 8 are corresponding members, he noted.

Later, F.Gadirov spoke about the general meeting of the department and activities of the bureau. At present, Department has 9 active and 18 corresponding members. Department of Earth Sciences held 11 general and 5 bureau meetings. Members of the department conducted researches in priority areas and the results have been published in many journals of Thomson Reuters impacted, he lined out.

Academician also noted that it was considered appropriate to name Institute of Geology as Institute of Geology and Geophysics by the decision of Presidium of ANAS dated February 27, 2014.

Active members of ANAS, Academic Vasif Babazadeh, Arif Ismail-Zadeh, a member of the bureau of the Department of Earth Sciences Hatam Guliyev, director of the Institute of Geography, Professor Ramiz Mammadov and others made speeches at the meeting.

It was noted that, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued an order dated February 26, 2014 to award Akif Alizadeh with “Istiglal” order for his merits in the development of science and highly qualified personnel training in the Republic of Azerbaijan.In addition, Elmira Mammadamin gizi Ramazanova was awarded with “Glory” order by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 26, 2014 for preparation of highly qualified specialists in oil and gas industry.

President of the National Academy of Sciences, academician Akif Alizadeh talked about the support of the academy for the department with the equipment and suggested his recommendations for future.
